About Us
Where did this all start?
Well, I'd go over friends houses in the fall and winter months and many times we would be in the backyard, huddled around the fire pit. It was nice that they had an option to be outside, especially later during Covid, but honestly, to keep warm, I needed to stand on top of the fire pit and put my hands right above the flames to keep them warm. I just never liked the effectiveness of a fire pit given that all if it's heat goes straight up.
So I started thinking about doing something about this. The idea probably rolled around in my head for 2-3 years before one day I had to take apart and throw away a standing patio heater on my back deck. Once I partially demolished it I realized I had the basic parts I needed to build my first prototype. I took my prototype over a friends house and tried it out on his fire pit. We both agreed that it did a good job of distributing the heat, but it still needed lots of work.
After some more planning, thinking, design, etc, I headed down to my local sheet metal shop and asked them to build a prototype dish for me. They were actually so unhappy with the way that the dish came out that they just gave it to me for free. They loved my idea, but they were not the right ones to execute on it for me.
I went to another nearby town to get my first set of prototype legs build. They were very simple and nothing exciting to look at, but this is the guy that turned me on to metal spinning. I had explained to him what I was trying to do, and he thought that the metal spinning process was just what I needed to create my dish. So I headed further across town to talked to a few metal spinners. I found one that created my first real prototype that closely resembles the product that we product today, and we are still working together.
During this product creation journey we were out RVing one weekend in the Santa Cruz mountains with our group of RV friends. One member of our group met a couple in the RV park and suggested that they stop by for a drink with us. When they came over, Mark pointed to my HeatSaver sitting over the fire pit and asked 'What's that?'. It turned out that Mark was great with CAD design, manufacturing, shipping and production, which are skills that are not my strong points. Mark and I quickly turned some short term work into an ongoing partnership.
Today, we are HeatSaver, a small, growing and motivated store specializing in increasing the enjoyment and warmth you get from your gas fire pit, keeping your family and your friends warmer and more comfortable when you are enjoying the outdoors. We are also adept at run-on sentences......
HeatSaver is light and portable, so you can use it in the backyard or take it with you camping. The legs are removable, and adjustable so you can change the height of the dish to work in a number of operating environments. You can even tilt the dish by lowering one leg so that the dish can act as a wind block.
